This view and the one below it were
taken in December 1995, just after we had taken possession of the
bus. As you can see, at first sight everything seems to be
there, but if you look closely you can see that not all the windows
are as they should be. The dents tell their own story! |
|
A view from the front. |
|
This view shows in close-up the sort of
damage that needed repairing. It looks superficial, but in
fact required a complete rebuilding of the front end in aluminium
and hardwood.. |
|
So, first strip of all the damaged panels, wood work
and aluminium framework... |
|
...install some good second-hand framing and new
hardwood... |
|
...then a trial fitting of the new front panel with
radiator grill aperture. |
|
After a bit more work, it looked like this - almost
complete except for paint and fittings. |
|
Meanwhile, to avoid polluting the countryside and
upsetting the neighbours, the leaky old fuel tank was replaced... |
|
...with the nice new one seen here. this view
was taken in 2002. |
|
And the neighbours? Here they are, seemingly
unperturbed by the vast project taking place alongside their
home. The first sign of my rapidly-impending deafness was when
I noticed how quiet they had become. |
